One of the toughest decisions, after choosing the best roofing contractor for the job, is deciding what color you want your shingles to be! I know that it can sound like a trivial decision but it really can matter. Many factors go into choosing what the best color shingle will be for your home. You want your roof to match its surroundings right? Here are some things to think about and some great tips on how to decide what color to settle on!
Things to Consider
You want your roof color to look great on your home and go well with the surroundings. What is the color of your siding? Do you have a yard that has a particular color scheme that you want to stick with? If you want your neighbor’s home to match yours or look different from your home… Are you planning to paint soon? If so, make sure you get a roof color that will match the new home color, roofs last a long time! Something else to keep in mind is that if you have a HOA (Homeowners association) they may have some rules about what color schemes you are permitted to have in the HOA. Always check with your HOA before you make any exterior alterations to your home.
Ask Your Roofer
Because your contractor does this all the time, they more than likely have a good eye for what will go well with your home. Ask them for their opinion and take it seriously but also make sure to stay true to what you want. Your roofing contractor will be happy to put on any color for you.
Ask Your Neighbors
Sounds funny, but hey, they are gonna have to look at your home just as much as you will. Not only that, but many times it’s nice to hear the opinion of someone who looks at your home regularly. Your neighbor might think of some things that you don’t or have an eye that you don’t for colors that go well! Always take other’s opinions with a grain of salt though, it’s your home, and you make it how you want it to be.

If you know any good realtors see if they can come check your home out, especially if you are planning to sell in the next several years. They can tell you what could be done to make your home have a ton of curb appeal. Once they have done that you have an idea of what kind of improvements you would like to make. Then make your shingle color decisions. Making sure that your home stands out but not too drastically is an important balance. You want your home to match your neighborhood but also have a little something extra that sets it apart from the others!
