Choose the right roofing company for the job

Anytime that we have a large and daunting task that needs to be done to our homes it can seem overwhelming. Sometimes we are so ready to get it done and over with that we will go with the first contractor that gives us a bid. However, this may not always be the best choice. Even though getting multiple bids and doing research on several contractors seems daunting, it is well worth the effort. Where does one start? With this article, we hope to help you with some ideas on how to find the right roofing company for the job!

Do your research

Find out how long the company has been in business. Make sure that you know that the roofing company is licensed and insured. You never want to use a company that does not have those qualifications. Finding out about a company’s licensing is protecting yourself from mishaps and ultimately lawsuits that could make you lose everything. Make sure that you carefully read reviews online to find out what customer’s experiences have been with that contractor. Reading reviews can give you a really good feel for the roofing contractor. Check the contractor’s board for their license number. It should be displayed on their website and any other marketing material. Visit each website to see if it is professional and well-managed.

Ask for referrals

Ask everyone you know about roofing companies that they have used and that they recommend. This is a great way to find out who would be good and narrow it down. Some people that would be good to ask are neighbors, co-workers, and local friends. You can even post on your community Facebook page for good recommendations and referrals!

Meet companies

If you have some idea of who would be the best choice for you and have narrowed it down, give them a call and see if they can come out and meet you. You want to meet with a future company and see what you think of them. Sometimes people are not the best match or can rub each other the wrong way. You should be able to ask all the questions you want and talk about the materials used and time spent.

Bid on paper

It is typical to get the bid in writing, ask for the full amount, and make sure this includes all materials, labor, and taxes. Ask them if they have a margin for incidentals etc. If they are unwilling to put their bid in writing that is a huge red flag. Find someone else in that case.

Getting a new roof on your home or business is a big decision and it is extremely important to find the right roofing company to do it right the first time. Make sure you get referrals, do your research, read reviews, interview, and get everything that you need in writing. Remember to protect yourself by making sure that they are a licensed contractor and insured.
